It was in 1971 that jaguar introduced theseries iii with the walter hassan/harry mundy-developed 5. 3-liter sohc v12engine which became an industry standard for its combination of torque and power. The new v12 was standardized upon the floor pan of the 2-plus-2 variant, and only roadster and2-plus-2 models were produced. Jaguar's preceding coupe body style was discontinued. Completed at jaguar's brownslane factory in january of 1974, this highly original e-type roadster is one ofthe final examples of the legendary model. Delivered to the us when new, the carwas equipped with a left-hand-drive steering arrangement, and the 12-cylinder power plant. Finished in the very fittinglivery of silver metallic over black, this highly original jaguar is believed tohave covered less than 12,000 miles since new. Incredibly rare condition in that this numbers matching e-type was maintained byits original owner for thirty-eight years until my purchase eleven years ago in2006. The car was purchased new and lovingly cared for by charles l. Pomernackijr., an engineer at lawrence livermore laboratories. Charles and i had lunch andhe shared that he purchased the car after returning from working overseas as apetroleum engineer. He was meticulous about maintenance and his handwrittennotes for each service are visible on each of the factory service vouchers. Since 1968 when charles accepted a job at lawrencelivermore laboratories, this e-type has lived within a 25 mile radius of sanfrancisco. As a result of the california climate and always being garaged, thecar is extremely rust-free. I believe this is in most part due to the indoor garage space where thecar was parked was next to a personal woodworking studio with plenty of sawdustto act as a desiccant for any moisture. Only the seats and center console were correctly re-trimmed, using the propertype leather grain/texture for jaguar and moquette seat backing, by anupholsterer of pebble beach show winning automobiles. I kept the original floormats and leather seat covers. The exterior is one of the absolute best e-typecoupe colors, carmen red, and it is no surprise the xke data website’s logo isa carmen red fixed head coupe. The shade of carmen red on this coupe is theclosest i have ever seen to the orig.
